HPD Fall Classic - Upper Colorado River
September 26-29, 2024
This is year #3 of this great trip.
We have reserved Group Camp Site A.
Trip Captain - Jeff Johnson 303-807-2939
We will be meeting each night at the group campground at Radium - 7pm to decide what section to float each day and what time.
Saturday night we are putting together a group dinner starting at 6pm. The brat's, hamburgers and salad will be provided. Please bring a side dish and your favorite drink! This is also at the group campground at Radium.
Each night we will meet at the campground to sit around the fire and tell stories and such. Bring a camp chair!!!!
Boats - For those of you bringing a boat and have open seats please call/text Jeff Johnson @ 303-807-2939 so he can put you on the list.
Fishing - For a seat on a boat -
1st seat - Members who have never been on a float
2nd - Fill in the seats with the first members on location.
Gear - Bring a 5-6wt with floating line or larger setup If you have a sinking line set up that will work as well for streamers but not required. We will be throwing streamers and dry/drop almost all day depending on the section we float. If we decide to nymph that setup will work fine as well. 3X leader with tippet from 4X-0X
Flies -
Streamers - Baby Conga, Kreelux minnow - Brown trout colors, mini leech, Wolly bugger/thin mint, Sculpzilla, Zonker - Colors - Green/black/white
Dry's - Hopper, Chubby Chernobyl, Adams, Stimulators, Madam X
Nymphs - Pig sticker worm, Pat's rubber legs, Frenchie, Perdigon, BWO Emerger patterns.
If you do not get a seat on a boat the 1st day, you will be on a boat the next day!
Safety is the most important thing on this trip! Every boat must have the state mandated items required as well as a PFD for every person on board. If you have your own PFD please bring it!
CAMPING
The group campsite parking area is setup for camper vans/trucks only. If you have a larger RV/Trailer please book a spot at Radium campground.
The group site has lots of spots for tent camping.
Our reserved group campsites will offer free camping to all HDP members who have pre-registered for the trip but a $5 per vehicle/day is required for parking around the facilities. This trip will provide a great opportunity to float fish a pristine section of the Colorado River - covering lots a river-miles over the course of three days and hopefully landing lots of nice fish!
